My philosophy of leadership
Leadership in the recent years is a concept that has attracted interest be it the political, religious, business or academic institutions. Many organizations and states spend huge sums of money in attempting to develop effective leaders through training and provision of interactive programs with accomplished leaders in the world. The essence of leadership is the ability to inspire and encourage others either by action or persuasion (Heller & Van 1982). An individual’s style of leadership is influenced much by the core values upheld by that person as well as one’s beliefs and assumptions. Effective leadership is also learnt from others through observation or interaction to adapt new styles of dealing with diverse characters and situations. To me, the philosophy of leadership is defined by a number of factors. A leader must a person of integrity who can lead by example and show honesty. Leaders are people who should be trusted with what they promise or what they are out to do. Dishonesty in leadership results to mistrust and negative attitude.

A leader should also be sufficiently empathetic. One should always try to put himself in other people’s situations before and when making judgment or decisions. This enables one to understand the impact of their decisions and be able to judge how others will feel about the decisions (Kelly 1992).Consistency and fairness is another key element of a leader. This is important in the sense that leading others requires treatingg everyone equally and fairly. Unfairness in leadership results to resentment which gives rise to disharmony. Success in leadership calls for balancing and understanding diverse perspectives. A good leader should not be a narrowed thinker who only sees things from one point of view. One should be able to get a clear picture of the different environments and how people look at every situation. In other words, a good leader must be explorative in thinking before making a judgment.
My philosophy of followership
According to Rath & Conchie (2011), followership refers to the act of adherence and it brings about successful leadership. A good follower does not blame the leader for unpopular policy or decision. Blaming the leader by followers is a sign of disobedience. Instead of blaming the leader, a good follower gives suggestions when given opportunity in policy making. A follower should also not discuss with others what they have shared with the leader and avoid the temptation of being the ‘yes’ person to everything a leader asks. Good followership entails being open- minded and discussing not just what affects you as an individual but what also affects other followers. It entails working teams with other followers. Teamwork brings about synergy that makes duties easier and faster to accomplish. Followership goes beyond reporting to a leader but being able to show other followers what you understand as being true based on your experience or research. It is through good followership that good leadership is nurtured. Followership entails taking initiative. One does not need to be micro- managed for there to be expected achievements. Followers should understand what is expected of them and execute it even in the absence of the leader. It also includes taking new responsibilities whenever they are offered whether related to the chore duties or not. Followership that includes taking up responsibilities encourages harmony with the leader. The other thing about a follower is that he should tell the truth to foster mutual trust with the leader. Falsehood among followership may create misunderstanding and can result to loss of integrity.
Purpose of followers The purpose of followers is to execute the policy of the organization. When there is a policy change or introduction of a new ideas or product, the followers are there to ensure proper execution of the changes. Followers are also an important part in brining in organization new information from the ground. If it a business organization, followers are the ones who interact with customers on a one on one basis and therefore are better placed to collect information necessary for favorable changes. Followers provide support to leaders in organizing and planning for the organization or company. They give details on how best they would want the organization run for there to be efficiency. This involves giving suggestions about what needs to be corrected or improvements to be made. CLICK HERE FOR HELP ON THIS PAPER…………………….
We can also not forget to mention that followers are at the base of any organization. They therefore play an important role in keeping good relations with external factors such as customers. In a way they contribute to giving the company or organization a name or attitude. Any successful organization must have followers who create a good impression of the organization for effective understating of what the organization does. Followers also create leadership through experience. The on job skills acquired when one is working as a follower help them become effective leaders in the future. It would be impossible to have a leader who does not understand the technicality of the department or section they are leading. The purpose of a follower is also to encourage other followers to work competently for quick achievement of goals. Communication amongst followers is effective than communication from a leader since there is free interaction.
Purpose of a leader The purpose of a leader is to show guideline in making polices to be followed in the organization. Policies made by leaders are meant to guide behavior so that everyone in the organization does not do whatever they want. The leaders’ purposes also involve motivating their followers for good performance or good behavior. If good performance goes unnoticed or motivated by the leaders, then it may be a sign of neglect which may then discourage good results Leaders also carry the name of the company or institution (Seteroff 2008). They represent the institution to external functions and events for which representation of the institution is required. In addition, they are tasked with maintaining order in departments or section they are in charge of. Leaders are purposed with taking action against the followers who disobey the set down rules and procedures of the institution. Leaders also take charge of resources and facilities to ensure that they Is no theft, vandalism or destruction by either a staff member or an outsider. Through accountability of resources, leaders are tasked to ensure that resources are spent on what they are meant for. They ensure there is no corruption in the institution for there to be good morals in the people they lead. Finally, leaders are tasked with official communication of any policy changes that arise to guard against vineyard that may ruin performance. Only communication from the leader is regarded as true and to be the position of the institution. Without a leader in any organization, definitely there can be no order completely.
