Journal Topic #3 – Podcasting The task for this journal entry is to learn about podcasting • Start off by doing a little Internet research to determine what podcasting/webcasting is. • Next your going to listen to some podcasts. If you have (or don’t mind installing) iTunes, you can listen to your podcasts on your computer using it – or any iDevice. This is the simplest way to accomplish this. Podcasts are available from the iTunes store, and are all free content. Mobile device platforms have several podcast apps that will allow you to find/download/stream episodes You could install an aggregator to listens to them on your desktop (something like gPodder, which is free and works on all platforms) Some podcasts also stream from the websites as well, so you can watch them in a browser. • Listen to at least one episode from each of the following podcasts (or types of podcast: o Any “learn a language” podcast o This Week in Tech o Any podcast created by NPR o Any other two podcasts of your choice (one should be video, the other should be audio only) • In your journal entry, be sure to identify and evaluate the podcast epsiodes you watched/listened to. Reflect on your experience with podcasting, and consider how this technology fits and/or contrasts with other methods for presenting, and gathering information we’ve looked at so far.
