If you decide to discuss character you may decide to discuss how Austen uses one or the other of the two main couples in the novel; you may choose to discuss how Austen uses one or more of the novel’s minor characters to reflect the two sides of a "debate" about how women and men should react to a particular situation or bow Austen uses the difference between the opinions of political society and the reality of certain characters reveals about the social code of civility. If you discuss the settings in the novel, you may decide to discuss how the settings reflect different character traits of some of her characters, or how the ways different characters react to different settings reveal Austen’s ideas about the difference between ideals about how society should work or the relationship between the sexes and the sometimes ugly or unpleasant reality.
