Morgan’s Plastics Ltd Morgan Plastics is a family run company with over 100 years’ experience in the plastics industry. They employ over 100 employees at their two sites, one in Essex, and the other on the Isle of Skye. Mary has been working for Morgan’s for five years, and has just been told by her local council, that she and her partner Josephine, have been successful in their application to adopt a pair of identical twin boys, which they will raise in their shared home. Mary asks Stan her Supervisor what rights she has so far as leave entitlement is concerned. Stan, who is well known for his homophobic attitude, and dislike of alternative lifestyles, tells Mary ” There is no way, I’m going to give you any extra leave, if you need time off, take it from your annual leave”. 1. Advise Mary of her rights concerning any possible time off she may have concerning the adoption of the twin boys, and the hostile attitude of Stan. 2. Amelia and Jacob believe they have been unfairly selected for Redundancy. It has come as no surprise to either of them that they were selected especially as Stan, was involved in the selection process. Amelia is the Senior Trade Union Representative on site and believes this is revenge over her trade union activities. Jacob on the other hand, believes he was selected because he was one of the few employees who came out on strike four months ago when there was a bitter industrial dispute over pay. Jacob who used to be known as Jane, underwent gender reassignment two years ago. As an alternative to redundancy, they are both offered identical employment at Morgan’s Isle of Skye branch with only a 10% decrease in pay, but considering the distance they would have to travel, they refuse to accept.Advise both Amelia and Jacob.
